Agustin Auzmendi doubled the lead for the hosts in the 16’ with a right-footed finish to capitalize on a run and low cross into the box from Jorge Serrano. The goal was Auzmendi’s third in the campaign, while also taking his all-time tally to 10 in the competition as the club’s top scorer.

Águila goalkeeper Rafael García had several interventions throughout the second half to prevent the hosts from scoring a third goal, notably denying Edwin Maldonado in the 75’ and Rubilio Castillo in the 81’.

Edgar Medrano came close to shortening the deficit for Águila in the 90’+6’ with a curled right-footed strike from outside the box that bounced off the woodwork.

Motagua and Águila will meet in the second leg next Wednesday in El Salvador. The winner, on aggregate, will secure a spot in the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup.
