USMNT international Yunus Musah admitted that he didn’t know whether to press high or sit back against Parma, and Italian pundits highlighted that this confirmed Milan and Paulo Fonseca’s tactical confusion.

Milan have had a terrible start to the season, with just one point in the opening two games.

The Rossoneri lost 2-1 to Parma on Saturday, which already put the new coach, Fonseca, under pressure.

Italian media and pundits feel that the Rossoneri’s confusion was mirrored by a post-match interview that American midfielder Musah released to DAZN on Saturday.

“Sometimes, I didn’t know whether to press high or sit back,” the 21-year-old.

“Ultimately, I corrected this. I decided to be aggressive and let the centre-back get who was behind me. We managed to be more aggressive and recover possession more frequently.

“We were dangerous with the ball. We played well, but when we lost it, we were too exposed defensively and that’s where we must improve,” continued the American midfielder.

“We can’t have control and then struggle when opponents have the ball. We have to correct this defensively.

“As I said, we had a lot of control over the ball and felt confident. But defensively, we felt exposed, so we must work on this and avoid taking too many risks on counterattacks.”

On Monday, La Gazzetta dello Sport wrote on page 12 that Musah’s words ‘confirmed Milan’s tactical confusion.’

Likewise, Italian journalist Franco Ordine said on Sunday: “The most worrying thing was Musah’s statement at the end of the game. He said he didn’t know whether to press high or stay in position.”

Milan host Lazio at San Siro in the next Serie A game, the last one before the international break in September.
