Burnley making a late move to bring in a Cardiff City wide man would be a dream move
With just a matter of days left in the transfer window, Burnley need to get a move on in order to strengthen their misfiring front line, but so far, progress has stalled a little.
Most of their January business so far has had little impact on the first-team picture, with the three additions to date - Ashley Barnes, Jonjo Shelvey and Oliver Sonne - playing only a matter of minutes between them.
Clarets fans are desperate to see their side bring in some attacking reinforcements in the final days of the window, but despite a raft of names being linked with a move, nothing has yet materialised, and it's left fans wondering if anything will happen.
Burnley did at least do a flurry of business on deadline day in the summer, signing three first team players, and fans will be hoping for a similar raft of activity to round off this window, or else they risk leaving themselves susceptible in the promotion race.
It's so far so good on that front as they're firmly in the race for the automatic promotion spots, but a failure to add some much-needed guile could prove to be their undoing.
It's no secret that final third struggles are the sole reason that Burnley aren't sitting comfortably clear at the top of the Championship this season, as their defence is among the best in the history of English Football League history at this stage of a season.
A raft of 0-0 draws have held Burnley back this season, and they're the kind of results that they could look back on come the end of the season and have huge regrets over if they happen to miss out on automatic promotion.
Such defensive solidity means that Burnley only need one goal to win most games, and a player like Ollie Tanner could help them find that key moment in a game if he was to be recruited in the coming days.
Tanner has been linked with a move to Burnley this window, and his profile fits that which could be attractive to the club, as he isn't likely to command the same kind of fee as someone like Morgan Whittaker, who the Clarets were interested in, but ultimately signed for Middlesbrough in a deal worth up to £8m.
Money is certainly tight for Burnley at the moment, but they may have to push the boat out a little to get a deal like this over the line with so much at stake financially if they don't go back up at the first time of asking
It's been a bit of a stop-start season for Tanner, who has had to deal with a couple of injuries, but when he has played, he's done his stock no harm at all.
Although a record of two goals and assists this term doesn't make amazing reading for the stat gurus, it's worth noting that he's been playing in a side battling at the wrong end of the table, and one who also give up a lot of possession.
It could be argued that he's still adapting to life in the second tier, with this just his second campaign at this level after he signed for the Bluebirds from non-league side Lewes back in 2022.
He's continued his upward trajectory since, and a move to Burnley could be a nice next stepping stone in his career, and the Clarets would get some benefit out of it too, as he would certainly improve their options out wide.
Tanner is the sort of profile of player Burnley are crying out for - one who can make things happen - but Parker will have to drop his recruitment mold of electing for excperienced players to get this dream deal over the line.
