The 18-year-old felt discomfort in training on Tuesday afternoon, though, and he was unable to finish the session.

The left-back was duly left out of the Arsenal squad for their 3-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb on Wednesday in the Champions League and he will undergo further assessment in the coming days.

“I am not sure [if Lewis-Skelly will be fit to face Wolves on Saturday],” said Arteta.

“He jarred his knee in the game against Villa and he thought it was okay when he finished the game.

“The next day it wasn’t bad and then yesterday he wasn’t feeling right, and so he started the session and he wasn’t feeling good.

“So, we need some more tests tomorrow. Hopefully it is nothing big, but the games are coming very fast.”

Asked if Lewis-Skelly needs a scan, Arteta said: “Yeah, we need to [do that].”

In the absence of Lewis-Skelly, the Gunners ran out comfortable winners against Dinamo to all but secure a spot in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Arsenal are on 16 points and sit third in the league phase of the competition, with only a huge swing in goal difference able to deny them a top-eight finish.

Declan Rice opened the scoring for them against Dinamo inside two minutes, with Kai Havertz and Martin Odegaad finding the net after the break.

“Look it was an important win tonight,” said Rice. “It’s been a very positive Champions League campaign, so we’ve got one more to go now, hopefully we can win that as well.

“We need to keep winning games. I think the game at the weekend, 2-0 up [against Aston Villa], we drew 2-2 it’s a real kick in the teeth, we should be seeing it out - but to bounce back tonight and win and now we go into Wolves.”
