Nigerian international centre-back and FC Nantes target Chidozie Awaziem (26) is in open conflict with his current club Boavista over unpaid wages, according to a report from Ouest-France. The 26-year-old is tied with the Portuguese side over a contract set to expire in 2025. However, he is expected to return with Les Canaris after spending the 2017-18 season on loan at Claudio Ranieri’s FC Nantes from FC Porto.
Awaziem has reportedly agreed personal terms over a four-year deal with Nantes. The Nigerian international is expected to compensate for the departure of Andrei Girotto, who joined Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Tawoon, and compete for a starting spot in Pierre Aristouy’s defense with Nicolas Pallois and Jean-Charles Castelletto. Ouest-France reported that Boavista and Nantes had agreed a €1.5m transfer fee. However, the Nigerian’s arrival at the Cité des Ducs is delayed due to the player’s dispute with Boavista. Ouest-France understands that Awaziem will become a free agent on August 16th should no agreement is found between the involved parties on the matter. As expected, Nantes are bidding their time in order to land Awaziem on a free.
Additionally, Ouest-France confirm that Arsenal winger Marquinhos will join Nantes imminently on a season-long loan with no option to buy.
