Napoli reportedly asked for Carney Chukwuemeka during negotiations with Chelsea for Romelu Lukaku, made a new offer for the Belgian striker and sounded out Mats Hummels’ availability.
Negotiations between Napoli and Chelsea to bring Lukaku to the Stadio Maradona resumed following the Partenopei’s 3-0 loss to Hellas Verona on Sunday.
Sky Sport Italia transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Napoli have not raised their offer but have proposed Chelsea a loan deal with an obligation to buy, still for €25m plus €5m add-ons.
However, it is unlikely that Napoli will unlock the deal if they don’t send an improved offer that is closer to Lukaku’s €43m clause.
Antonio Conte has demanded two new central midfielders, and the 20-year-old could join Napoli on a free loan deal with an option to buy for €15m to €20m.
Last but not least, Sunday’s loss to Hellas Verona probably convinced Napoli to strengthen the defensive department further.
According to Radio Kiss Kiss, the Partenopei have made contact with Mats Hummels, who is available for free after the end of his contract with Borussia Dortmund.
