Napoli confirm foot surgery for Gianluca Gaetano

Napoli midfielder Gianluca Gaetano is facing a spell on the sidelines after a foot fracture.

The 23-year-old was withdrawn midway through the Serie A champions’ 2-0 win over Sampdoria on Sunday.

A subsequent scan has revealed that Gaetano suffered a metatarsal injury during his side’s final outing of their title-winning campaign.

“Gianluca Gaetano, who was injured in Napoli-Sampdoria, underwent diagnostic tests today which highlighted a fracture of the fifth metatarsal of his left foot,” a Napoli statement confirmed.

“The Blues’ midfielder will undergo surgery in the next few days.”

Gaetano had enjoyed a breakout season at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona after making 12 appearances in all competitions.
