Napoli have reportedly reached an agreement in principle with the camp of Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho over a five-year deal.
Garnacho has been strongly linked to Napoli in the past few days amidst suggestions that United would be willing to sell him for the right price. It’s believed that unlike last season, the 20-year-old is no longer viewed as untouchable.
The Argentine momentarily fell out of favour with Ruben Amorim but he recently returned to the team and played a key role in Sunday’s win over Arsenal in the FA Cup. Garnacho provided the assist for Bruno Fernades’ opening strike before the team went on to win via a penalty shootout.
Despite this, speculation over his future has been rife. A previous report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Napoli boss Antonio Conte has identified Garnacho as the ideal replacement forKhvicha Kvaratskhelia, who is on the brink of officially joining Paris Saint-Germain.
There were claims that Napoli chief Giovanni Manna already initiated talks with Garnacho’s representatives.
This has now been reiterated by Calciomercato, who go a step further to state that an agreement over personal terms has been struck between the player and the Serie A outfit.
According to Calciomercato, “It is not news that the Salento coach [Conte] has made a specific request on the market, with Alejandro Garnacho who is the number one objective of the Neapolitan management.”
“Giovanni Manna, Napoli’s sporting director, met with the entourage of the Manchester United attacking winger in Barcelona, who immediately made it known that he is inclined to move to Campania.”
“There is already an agreement in principle between the parties with Napoli who have proposed a 5-year contract of around 3 million euros per season, gradually increasing.”
“There will be work to be done on the details (the entourage is asking for 4 million per year, but the distance is almost minimal thanks to the inclusion of some bonuses), but the feelings after the meeting are more than positive.”
The report adds that the situation with United is more complex because the Red Devils want €70m to let their academy graduate leave – a sum that is too high for Napoli.
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has made it clear that he is not willing to go above €50m for Garnacho.
In the event that a compromise with United fails to materialise, Napoli have alternatives lined up. These include Karim Adeyemi (Borussia Dortmund), Federico Chiesa (Liverpool), Dan Doye (Bologna) and Patrick Dorgu (Lecce).
