The adrenaline is rising, the countdown has begun. Inter is preparing for their crucial match on Matchday 27, scheduled for Saturday 1 March at 18:00 CET, away at Napoli. The Nerazzurri are coming into the match at the top of the table on 57 points, one ahead of Napoli. In the reverse fixture at San Siro, the match ended 1-1: McTominay's opener was cancelled out by Calhanoglu's strike from distance.
Napoli and Inter have met 157 times in Serie A history. The Nerazzurri have the better record with 70 wins to the Azzurri's 47. 40 matches ended in a draw. Inter are unbeaten in four of their last five away league games against Napoli. Furthermore, the Nerazzurri have scored in each of their last 13 matches against Napoli in Serie A.
Inter is the team with the highest number of different goalscorers in the league this season (17). They have only managed more in two Serie A seasons: in 2007/08 and 2019/20 when they managed 18 different goalscoreres. As well as their standout team play, the Nerazzurri are the team with the most headed goals in any of Europe's top five leagues this season (11, level with Atalanta).
Napoli, under manager Antonio Conte since the start of the season, are currently second in the league, with 56 points, 17 wins and five draws. The Azzurri have scored 42 goals and conceded 21. They have played four league matches in the last month, earning three draws and a loss: 1-1 draw with Roma and Udinese, 2-2 draw away to Lazio and then their 2-1 loss to Como. The manager normally uses a 3-5-2 with Meret in goal, Di Lorenzo, Rrahmani and Buongiorno in defense, Politano, Gilmour, Lobotka, McTominay and Spinazzola in midfield with Raspadori and Lukaku up top. Mazzocchi, David Neres and Anguissa are not available. Their top scorer is Lukaku on nine goals.
Once again he writes himself into this club's history. Lautaro Martínez, scorer of ten goals this season, has become Inter's first non-Italian player to reach double figures in goals in six different Serie A campaigns.
Inter has a range of players who have gotten their name on the scoresheet against Napoli. Hakan Çalhanoglu has scored in two of his last three matches against Napoli in Serie A: in this season's reverse fixture with his wondergoal from distance and in last year's match at the Maradona. Nicolò Barella also has a good record with four goal involvements against the Azzurri in the league, scoring one and assisting three. Finally, two other players stand out: Stefan de Vrij has set up two against Napoli and Frederico Demarco has three goal involvements (one goal, two assists)
