Napoli have started showing some ambition amid the summer transfer market, with last season’s Serie A sensation Giovanni Simeone added to their transfer wishlist.

According to transfer guru Gianluca di Marzio, Giovanni Simeone could replace Andrea Petagna at Napoli this summer.

The report believes that Petagna is getting closer to joining Monza. Napoli want to replace his services with those of Simeone.

After leaving Cagliari to join Hellas Verona on a loan deal last summer, Simeone underwent a complete transformation under the management of Igor Tudor.

In the 2021/22 season, the Argentina international ended up scoring 17 goals and five assists from 35 appearances in Serie A. Verona have agreed to pay Cagliari a fee of €10.5 million to redeem his permanent services.

However, the striker might not start the new season at Verona, with a bunch of European sides showing keen interest in the 27-year-old prolific forward. Napoli appear to be one of them.

Di Marzio claims that Napoli could sign the striker on a season-long loan plus an obligation to buy worth around €15 million. It would be interesting to see whether Simeone agrees to be the deputy for Victor Osimhen, who remains a transfer target for numerous clubs across the world.
