NEC Nijmegen have made two new signings in one day, recruiting 20-year-old talent Sontje Hansen from Ajax and Mees Hoedemakers from Cambuur.
Sontje Hansen has spent the last two seasons playing for Ajax Reserves. This season the youngster has scored four goals and provided three assists in 23 games for Jong Ajax. The former Netherlands U18 international can operate on either wing, in attacking midfield or as a striker. With his contract at Ajax expiring this summer, Hansen has put pen to paper on a four-year deal with NEC. According to the club website, Hansen ‘had several offers in his pocket, but ultimately chose NEC as his new destination.’ The 20-year-old has been highly regarded in the Ajax academy but only made two first-team appearances.
NEC have also completed the signing of Mees Hoedemakers from SC Cambuur. The 25-year-old midfielder has agreed a four-year deal with the club. Hoedemakers kicked off his career in AZ Alkmaar’s youth academy, where he played 60 times for Jong AZ. Having played over 120 games for Cambuur, he’s decided to make a move to NEC. Cambuur’s relegation to the Eerste Divisie will also have played a part in his decision to leave de Geelblauwen after spending four seasons at the club. NEC are 10th in the Eredivisie, on course for their best top-flight finish since the 2015/16 season.
