Nemanja Matić set to leave Lyon at the end of his contract | OneFootball

According to L’Équipe, Nemanja Matić (36) is likely to leave Lyon on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the season. The Serbian international midfielder signed an 18-month deal with OL when he joined from Rennes in January 2024, but that deal is set to end in June of this year.

Matić has been a pivotal figure for Les Gones since he arrived at the Groupama Stadium both on and off the pitch. With his vast experience of winning trophies, the 36-year-old has proved to be a leader on the field but a positive figure in the dressing room. His added ability to speak English has made him a dependable figure for those unable to speak French.

For the first time this season against Manchester United, Matić was forced to succumb to the bench, somewhere he started and finished the match against his former club. This was perhaps because of the feud he caused in the media with André Onana, but it showed that Fonseca is trying to reduce the reliance on the former Chelsea midfielder in important matches.
