Lazio defeat fatal for Bocchetti as Nesta set to return to Monza

Bocchetti was appointed in late December to replace the former Italy centre-back in a bid to reverse the club’s struggles after a difficult start to the season, with his struggles culminating in today’s 5-1 defeat at the hands of Lazio.

However, the former Genoa defender’s arrival has failed to deliver the desired results, with Monza earning just three points from the seven league matches since the managerial change. The club now sits at the bottom of Serie A, eight points adrift of safety.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, it is just a matter of time before the club announces the sacking of Bocchetti, with vice-president and director Adriano Galliani already set on recalling Nesta.

Nesta had replaced Raffaele Palladino in the summer, earning 10 points from 17 matches at the helm, which also included a 1-1 draw against leading champions Inter.
