Denzel Dumfries and Marko Arnautovic were the “driving force” in Inter Milan’s dramatic Serie A comeback against Monza yesterday.
This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Inter Milan found themselves in a deep hole yesterday after former Nerazzurri forward Keita Balde inspired Monza to a shock 0-2 lead with a brilliant curling long-range curling effort.
But it didn’t take long for the Nerazzurri to respond.
Inter Milan striker Marko Arnautovic headed home just a couple minutes after Balde’s goal. And coming just before halftime, the timing of the goal couldn’t have been more perfect.
Arnautovic’s goal completely shifted the momentum of yesterday’s match going into halftime.
It was not a coincidence that Arnautovic scored the vital goal to kick off the comeback.
The Austrian had come close on a couple occasions already in a rare Serie A start. Whilst he was not quite sharp enough to score those earlier chances, he was certainly getting himself into the positions.

Meanwhile, it was Denzel Dumfries who assisted Arnautovic.
And it was not coincidence that the Dutchman was the player who flicked the ball on in that decisive moment.
Dumfries continued his sparkling recent run of form for Inter. He looks in top physical condition, and was constantly offering an outlet for his team up the pitch.
That was exactly what the team needed to respond to Monza’s first half shock.
Meanwhile, the Gazzetta also praise Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu for his performance and his vital second half goal.
The newspaper compare the Turk’s effort to the famous goal by Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara in a Champions League match against Porto in terms of the remarkable technique employed.
