New York City FC has announced that the midfielder Nicolás Acevedo will permanently transfer to Bahia, a Brazilian club that also belongs to the City Football Group. The Uruguayan had two loan seasons, so it is a permanent buy to set a seal on the move as one more step to close ties between both clubs from the same group.
Acevedo joined NYCFC in 2020 from Liverpool Montevideo with the charge of adding balance to the midfield. In his three seasons with the club, he has played 82 matches across all competitions, proving to be a key piece in the team's 2021 MLS Cup and 2022 Campeones Cup titles.
In 2023, Acevedo was loaned to Bahia, where he adapted rather quickly to the physical and competitive style of Brazilian soccer. Though his initial contract included performance-based triggers for a mandatory purchase, those conditions were not met. Still, Bahia decided to exercise its option to buy, a sign that the Uruguayan did a good job during his two seasons with the club.
Such will be the permanent sale of Nicolás Acevedo to Bahia, an explicit signal of how the City Football Group will precisely optimize resources and rhyme the needs of its clubs: New York City FC loses a player and opens up space for other signings; Bahia hires an experienced midfielder.
The Uruguayan leaves New York with a winning history and starts a new chapter in Salvador, where he has already earned the trust of the fans and the club's management. This transfer can be highlighted as natural and strategic, which favors all the parties involved.
Now New York City FC looks to the future while Acevedo continues to write his story on new fields.
