Newcastle could offer former Atlético Madrid, AC Milan and Blackburn striker Nikola Kalinić a return to the Premier League in January.
Kalinić is currently on loan at Roma from Atlético but the Croatian international has so far failed to score a single goal in just six appearances for the club.
And according to Italian outlet Il Corriere dello Sport, the Giallorossi want to terminate his loan deal in January and the 31-year-old has been offered to Newcastle.
The Magpies are looking to offload a couple of forwards of their own in the winter window, with Dwight Gayle and Yoshinori Muto both reportedly close to the exit door, while Joelinton has so far contributed just one goal since joining for £40m in the summer.
Kalinić is said to have already turned down offers to join Serie A sides Hellas Verona and Genoa, suggesting he could be interested in a possible return to the Premier League.
He previously scored 13 goals in 53 games for Blackburn between 2009 and 2011.
And if Roma are able to get rid of Kalinić, Il Corriere dello Sport claim they are likely to turn to Real Madrid flop Mariano Díaz as his replacement.
