Arsenal’s opponents next weekend have been handed an early injury blow, with the news that Callum Wilson won’t be available for hosts Newcastle United.

“We are going to lose Callum for the next three games,” Howe told a press conference on Friday.

“He has had some tightness in his body – he hasn’t felt like he can kick on to that last part [of his recovery].”

Newcastle’s next three games are against Chelsea in the Premier League, Chelsea again in the League Cup, and then Arsenal back in the league.

Wilson is yet to play any minutes for Newcastle this season, but there had been some hope he might be fit by the start of November.

The striker played in this fixture last season, helping his team to a 1-0 win. He then missed Newcastle’s 4-1 defeat at the Emirates Stadium through injury, and it looks like he’ll miss this game too.

Wilson won’t be the only one out. Jamaal Lascelles and Sven Botman are both out until 2025, and Kieran Trippier is unlikely to return from his hamstring injury in time for the match.

On the other side of the coin, Martin Dubravka is widely expected to be back fit ahead of the game. That’s unlikely to be relevant, however, with Nick Pope the firm favourite to start.
