Diogo Jota is a summer transfer target for Newcastle United and Wolves with the forward expected to leave Liverpool.

Jota has been plagued by fitness injuries across the last three seasons and Liverpool are prepared to offload the Portugal international in the summer. Premier League rivals are monitoring his situation, with former club Wolves among his suitors.

Transfer journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed Newcastle are also weighing up an approach. Callum Wilson is out of contract at St James’ Park in the summer and Jota is viewed as an ideal addition to boost the club’s forward stocks. There is also growing interest in leading scorer, Alexander Isak, including from Liverpool.

Jota is understood to want to continue playing Champions League football, which could end Wolves’ hopes of re-signing the 28-year-old. Newcastle remain in contention for a place in Europe’s elite with the Magpies trailing fourth-placed Chelsea by two points. The Premier League is also expected to receive an additional Champions League place for next season through co-efficient.

Jota signed for Liverpool from Wolves in a £40m deal in 2020. He has scored 46 goals in 115 league appearances for the Reds, of which just 75 have come from the start.

However, his unavailability has been a concern with Jota having averaged just 12 league starts a season over the last three campaigns.
