Some interesting comments from this BBC Sport pundit on Eddie Howe and Newcastle United.
Chris Sutton speaking ahead of Wednesday night at St James’ Park.
Eddie Howe and his Newcastle United players looking to make it nine wins in a row.
Twenty three goals and eight very good performances overwhelming Leicester, Brentford, Ipswich, Aston Villa, Man U, Spurs, Arsenal and Bromley.
Wolves are now up next.
Chris Sutton talking to BBC Sport – 13 January 2025:
“This is pretty straightforward as far as predictions go.
“Newcastle United are on for a domestic Treble this season – well, on current form anyway – and I don’t see their eight-game winning streak stopping here.
“Wolves had made a good start under new boss Vitor Pereira but they had their bubble burst by Nottingham Forest in their last league game, and I don’t see them dealing with the Magpies’ firepower.
“Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon have been great and Jacob Murphy is absolutely flying.
“I am really pleased for Murphy because a lot of people forget about him – but I haven’t, I have got him in my Fantasy team.
“Prediction: Newcastle 3 Wolves 0”
I find it difficult to disagree with any of that from the BBC Sport pundit.
If Eddie Howe’s side can maintain their current level of performance AND results, then who knows where we might end up?
Maybe not a domestic treble (just yet!) but Newcastle United looking capable of beating anyone at this moment in time, which fingers crossed will now continue with two quickfire Premier League home matches, starting with Wolves on Wednesday night.
Chris Sutton has been consistent with his Newcastle United predictions, that is consistently positive and correct, unlike most others.
For example, he has correctly forecast the Premier League wins over Villa, Man U and Spurs, as well as even pretty good with the exact scoreline predictions. The BBC Sport pundit predicting 3-1 against Villa (ended up 3-0), a 2-1 win at Man U (2-0) and 2-1 at Spurs (exactly correct).
On Sunday he went for 3-0 against Bromley and like the rest of us, the League Two side surprised the BBC Sport pundit with their early enterprise and goal, plus another that flashed past Dubravka’s post.
It was of course a much changed eleven in the FA Cup and Eddie Howe with have his A team out against Wolves, looking to get at Wolves from the first whistle and hopefully keep up the recent regular run of early NUFC goals in games, rather than at the other end.
