Newcastle United will travel to Anfield to face Liverpool in the Premier League on Wednesday night, and it’s going to be a cracking contest.

The Magpies returned to winning ways after their heavy 4-0 defeat against Manchester City, as they won 4-3 against Nottingham Forest last week.

They are now against the Premier League leaders, who have not lost a Premier League game since 14 September.

Ahead of the match, the Magpies boss, Eddie Howe, has shared the latest team news.

Howe said that Sandro Tonali is now “fully fit” and that he came through fine in the previous game.

The 24-year-old midfielder has been brilliant for the Magpies in midfield, and his return to the starting line-up will be a massive boost.

Sven Botman is also nearing full fitness as he recovers from a knee injury. The defender is improving quickly, and Howe says that he will be very close for the Liverpool game.

Howe also provided an update on Joelinton. The Magpies boss hailed him as a “massive” player and has suggested that Joelinton could be “quite close” to returning to the squad.

He said: “With Joe, it’s similar to Sven he is really improving and doing really well and pushing.

“He is another player who could be quite close. He has those key aspects that we have missed when he’s not there, his physicality and strength there is an obvious presence missing in our midfield. Joey is a massive player for us.”

Newcastle have been pretty inconsistent in recent weeks, and that is where the big concern lies.

The Magpies are fifth in the league table with 44 points, and only Man City are ahead of them on goal difference.
