Newcastle United welcome Chelsea to St James’ Park today in a crucial clash for both teams.
It’s a huge game for both sides, who are level on points in the race for Champions League qualification. With five teams battling for three places in the competition, the winners will take a massive step towards Europe’s elite.
The Magpies will take confidence from their impressive home form. Newcastle have won five consecutive games at St James’ Park, but host a Chelsea team searching for their sixth straight win in all competitions. Lewis Hall is also out for the campaign with a foot problem, while Jamaal Lascelles is yet to return from his ACL lay-off. Fabian Schar is a slight doubt heading into the game which could leave Newcastle light at centre-back, though Sven Botman has returned from the bench in recent games. Matt Targett is also unavailable due to a hamstring injury.
Newcastle United predicted XI: Pope; Trippier, Schar, Burn, Livramento; Guimaraes, Tonali, Willock; Murphy, Isak, Gordon.
