There were two Africa Cup of Nations round of 16 clashes Saturday evening. Let’s take a look ay what went down.
Scorers: Lookman 36′, 90′
It was a hotly contested opening 45 minutes, as expected when the two teams were drawn against each other.
Nigeria got the better of their rivals before the break however, as Victor Osimhen fed Ademola Lookman, who fired home the opener for the Super Eagles.
Cameroon pushed to pull themselves level but struggled to carve out any high-quality scoring chances.
Lookman backed up his first half strike with another in the dying minutes of the match to ensure Nigeria held on and booked their spot in the quarter-finals.
Nigeria have not won the competition since 2013.
Scorers: Dala 38′, 42′, Mabululu 66′
A Gelson Dala brace helped Angola ease past Namibia into the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final.
After a slow start, the game exploded into life as the first half wore on. The fireworks came when Angola keeper Neblú handled the ball outside of the box in an effort to thwart a Namibian breakaway, forcing the referee to send the shot-stopper off.
The numerical disadvantage was no issue for Angola however, as they raced out to two-goal lead before the end of the first half thanks to a Gelson Dala brace in four minutes.
To aid Angola’s efforts, Namibian centre-half Lubeni Pombili Haukongo was sent off for his second yellow card in between the two goals.
The tie was all but killed off past the hour mark when Mabululu put Angola three ahead with a superb curling effort.
