Arsenal urgently need to make changes up front this summer, but that shouldn’t have to mean simply throwing money at the problem.

The Gunners may have the opportunity to spend smartly on a top class centre-forward, with a fresh update coming in on the future of Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike.

The talented 22-year-old is on fire at the moment, scoring 19 goals in all competitions so far this season.

Ekitike looks very much like a similar profile to that of Newcastle front-man Alexander Isak, except he’d cost a fraction of the Swede’s £150m price tag.

That’s according to a report from the Sun, who state that Arsenal are looking at Ekitike this summer, with the Frenchman available for just £60m.

Arsenal can’t afford Alexander Isak – time to focus on Hugo Ekitike

It might be tempting to try paying over the odds to land a player like Isak because he’s proven in the Premier League, but it’s also important to be able to spot the next big thing coming.

Newcastle themselves took a bit of a gamble when they signed Isak from Real Sociedad, with the player only improving since making the move to St James’ Park.

Ekitike is another talented young forward who looks like he’s on an upward trajectory now, so Arsenal should spend the £60m required to bring him to the Emirates Stadium.

This is, quite simply, a no-brainer – if they don’t move now, Ekitike’s valuation is surely only going to soar, and other, richer clubs will come along and sign him instead.

Arsenal will have Andrea Berta taking over as sporting director soon, and he’ll no doubt be under pressure to make a big impression in his first summer in north London.

Delivering a signing like Ekitike could be a great first move for the Italian, who earned a reputation for sporting bargains during his time at Atletico Madrid.
