No Mainoo or Garnacho: Utd quartet granted immunity from INEOS’ ‘fire sale’, one inclusion might surprise fans

Almost every Manchester United player has been deemed a sellable asset this summer – except for four Reds who’ve been considered off-limits.
A truly turbulent campaign on all fronts bar Europe has INEOS chiefs racking their brains over how to get to the root of the problem at Old Trafford, and it doesn’t take a genius to know that it starts on the pitch.
For far too long have key figures across the squad have been getting away with subpar showings whilst taking home hundreds of thousands of pounds each week for their shoddy efforts. Now, they’re all at risk of being offloaded in the coming months.
According to a new report from the Daily Star, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his entourage are ‘willing’ to sanction the exits of the majority of the squad members this summer, provided their price tags are met.
Among the players who could be transfer-listed are four signings made by Erik ten Hag: Matthijs de Ligt, Joshua Zirkzee, Manuel Ugarte, and Rasmus Hojlund – the latter being the only one who joined in 2023 as opposed to 2024.
To the Old Trafford faithful’s dismay, Kobbie Mainoo can reportedly embark on a new venture elsewhere if any suitors put their money where their mouths are, while Chelsea have been instructed to ‘stump up at least £65 million’ if they want to complete their desired acquisition of Alejandro Garnacho.
In January, United rejected Napoli’s £40m bid for the Argentine due to it falling below their valuation. Chelsea, meanwhile, held talks with the player’s representatives but opted against making a formal bid. Then, when the window closed, it was claimed the Blues were confident they’d laid the groundwork for a summer swoop for Garnacho.

Only four players have been granted immunity from the ‘fire sale’: Amad, Bruno Fernandes, Patrick Dorgu and Harry Maguire.
The jury is still out on Dorgu following his mid-season switch from Lecce, while the remaining trio have proven invaluable to Ruben Amorim throughout the term.
As for Maguire, it’s just a testament to his emphatic turnaround at the club and how he’s soared up in everybody’s estimations this season. He has his one-year contract option activated at the start of the year, so it remains to be seen what United will do with him next summer.
