Burnley haven’t quite made the start to the Championship season that they would’ve been hoping for.

The Clarets have amassed enough points to be well in the mix for an automatic promotion place.

However, performances in recent weeks have left supporters unsure of whether a push for the top two can be sustained.

Scott Parker has come under scrutiny ahead of the January transfer window, with issues appearing on and off the pitch that fans will be hoping to see fixed in the near future.

Otherwise, their hopes of an immediate return to the Premier League will be in jeopardy.

Burnley's main issue highlighted

When asked what the biggest issue at the club is right now, FLW’s Burnley fan pundit Ben Livingstone highlighted the poor recruitment in the summer.

He believes that the squad has been downgraded even compared to their opening two games of the campaign, where they beat Luton Town and Cardiff City to an aggregate scoreline of 9-1.

“I think the biggest issue is on the pitch, it’s Scott Parker you could say is a big issue,” Livingstone told Football League World.

“But I don’t think the blame can solely lie on him.

“The squad is not good enough, we’ve had a lot of good, quality players.

“You look at the Luton players, you look at the Cardiff game, the squad is so vastly different to how it was then.

“You look at the goalscorers in those games, and most of them aren’t even here anymore.

“If we had the squad from the Luton and Cardiff games, the table would look completely different.

“There wouldn’t be nearly as much outrage.

“The recruitment wasn’t good enough in the summer, simple as that.

“We replaced a lot of good quality with bang average Championship players, and that’s where the problem is.

“We also have a problem up front, a huge problem up front.

“[Parker] can’t keep playing players out of position to fill in because you haven’t signed a proper striker that’s good enough.”

Burnley’s recent form

Burnley have won just one of their last five league games, their most recent fixture against Swansea City before the international break.

Three wins and one loss in the other four games has left them sitting fourth in the Championship table during this November pause in action.

Parker will be looking to arrest their dip in form going into the final month of the calendar year before the January transfer window opens.

Next up for the Lancashire outfit is a trip to Ashton Gate to face Bristol City on 23 November.

Parker will be under a lot of pressure if form doesn’t improve

Burnley’s lack of goals at the minute is a real issue given the team scored half of their current tally of 18 in the first two games.

Nine goals from the last 13 is not good enough for a team with Premier League aspirations.

If Parker doesn’t turn this around soon, then his position at Turf Moor will be under threat.

The emergence of Ruud van Nistelrooy as a free agent will also be of interest to the Championship side given he was linked with the role in the summer, which only amps up the pressure on Parker even further.
