Nottingham Forest are sure to be all over Norwich City’s measly asking price for Josh Sargent.
While Norwich City’s quest for promotion back to the Premier League is fading, forward Josh Sargent has been a shining light in a disappointing season.
The American international has been a regular source of goals at the top end of the pitch for the Canaries, with such consistent form increasing speculation over his future in East Anglia.
Sargent’s 12 goals and five assists from 24 Championship outings has seen him establish himself as one of the leading talents in the second tier this season, with many opposition teams fearing his presence when coming up against the 25-year-old.
Seemingly hitting his stride in the prime of his career, Sargent has been a first team regular under Johannes Hoff Thorup whenever available, starting 21 of the 24 second tier matches he’s been fit for.
With Sargent such an imperative figure to any Norwich success, it seems surprising the Canaries have set his asking price so low for the upcoming summer transfer window, with a number of clubs ready to pounce on such a bargain of a deal.
According to Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenburg, Norwich City are demanding between €15-€20 million for Josh Sargent’s services, indicating an exit is likely to be on the cards following the conclusion of the season.
It seems a surprisingly low fee to set, particularly as Sargent’s deal doesn’t run down at Carrow Road until 2028, and now more teams are beginning to circle, this time from the Bundesliga.
Promotion chasing Leeds United have been linked in the past with a move for the frontman, while Nottingham Forest, along with a host of other Premier League clubs have been monitoring his situation and planning moves.
Forest, in particular, have made original steps to secure Sargent by sending scouts to watch him during the current season, as they aim to bolster the frontline and offer competition to Chris Wood.
With Norwich setting such a measly figure to agree a deal for Josh Sargent, Nottingham Forest are surely in the driving seat given the financial pulling power they are about to possess.
While significant investment has been pumped into the club by owner Evangelos Marinakis, the Reds are in a strong position to secure their place inside the top four of the Premier League and play Champions League football next term, which would significantly increase Forest’s ability to spend in upcoming transfer windows.
In this day and age, it’s almost unheard of to see a player of Josh Sargent’s quality being made available for what could be a small chunk of Forest’s budget if all goes to plan, and the club will be very keen on getting a deal done, with Sargent showing he is ready for the step-up to the Premier League from his consistent returns in the Championship.
With Forest seemingly getting back to establishing themselves as heavyweights in English football, Norwich must up their asking price quite soon, otherwise Forest will be doing everything in their power to secure what would be one of the bargain buys of next season.
