Nunes: City aiming for strong season finale

Matheus Nunes says City are eyeing an unbeaten run to end the 2024/25 season - including FA Cup glory!
Nunes accepts it’s been a difficult campaign for the Blues after failing to challenge for the Premier League crown and exiting the Champions League at the Knockout Phase play-off stage.
But the right-back insists City are gunning for a strong conclusion to the term as we eye UCL qualification as well as success in the world’s oldest cup competition.
Ahead of our FA Cup semi-final with Nottingham Forest, he said: “It has been difficult for everyone, but we have big personalities inside of the changing room, experienced players, so we have tried to maintain as positive as possible.
“We are trying to finish as best as we can.
“We are going to try to win all of the remaining games in the Premier League to try and qualify for the Champions League and then when the FA Cup comes, we are of course going to try and win that as well.”
Nunes, an August 2023 signing, has won one Premier League, one FIFA Club World Cup and one FA Community Shield but just fell short in the last FA Cup.
He was an unused sub as City went down 2-1 to United in a second successive Manchester derby final.
The 26-year-old would love to see glory this time around as we look to defeat Forest and then emerge victorious in the May showpiece against Crystal Palace.
“For me, personally it would be very good because it would be my first FA Cup,” he said. “It would be very special, but we know what we have done this season is not enough.
“We need to step up and try to do better, especially in the next year.
“What we work for every week is to try and win trophies so if we can win the FA Cup we are going to try and win.”
Our last-four opponent at Wembley on Sunday have performed admirably all season.
Forest are thriving in their third successive season in the Premier League and currently sit sixth as they eye Champions League football next term.
City beat the Tricky Trees 3-0 at home and lost 1-0 away in this campaign but Nunes says those results count for little as we approach our clash at the national stadium this weekend.
“It will be completely different because it is the FA Cup, it is a semi-final, the game is a different environment,” he added.
“We are going to try and show our strengths and I am sure they will try to do their best as well.
“I think it is going to be a really different game compared to the Premier League games this season and we are going to try and win.
“You can tell by the table in the Premier League that they have been amazing this season.
“Nuno has done a really incredible job and they have a lot of stand out young players coming in, have threats both sides in the wings and Chris Wood has been scoring a lot of goals.
“They have a really good team and we have to be at our best.”
