The 2025 preseason is in full swing and New York City FC is preparing for their first season under their new head coach Pascal Jansen. The Pigeons have most of their first team from last year, with the biggest departure being James Sands, who is out on loan. Recently on Monday, Christian McFarlane departed the club for Manchester City FC.
NYCFC should and hopefully will add a few players before the season begins. They will also build up from the 2-2 draw against Real Salt Lake in their first preseason match, as one will see below. So, with some news to discuss, here is the latest NYCFC news roundup.
On Monday, NYCFC played their next preseason game against the LA Galaxy. As expected, Jansen changed up the Starting XI. Matt Freese, Agustín Ojeda, Jonny Shore, and Hannes Wolf were in the Starting XI. These players were able to lead the Bronx side to a 0-0 draw at halftime.
However, it was the second half when the Pigeons found the back of the net. The team won 2-0 against the current MLS Cup Champions. NYCFC's scorers were Mounsef Bakrar and Julián Fernández.
Hence, based on the score, it looks like the Boys in Blue had a good game. They found the back of the net twice and earned a clean sheet. At the same time, nobody could watch the fixture since it was behind closed doors. Nevertheless, it is good that NYCFC ended the second game with a win.
On Monday, NYCFC II announced the 2025 schedule for the upcoming MLS Next Pro season. The Baby Pigeons will seek to improve on their last season which saw them make the playoffs for the first time in the MLS Next Pro.
NYCFC II will begin the season on the road against Crown Legacy FC. The season opener will take place on Friday, March 7. Then, the home opener will occur the following Friday when the side faces Columbus Crew 2.
Then, the final home game of the regular season will be on Sunday, September 28, and NYCFC II will welcome Chattanooga FC. The last match will be on the road against Philadelphia Union II, and that will be on Sunday, October 5.
As it is already known, NYCFC II will play most of their games at Belson Stadium. They will also play four others at ICAHN Stadium. If NYCFC is in any tournament, then both venues could be used for the first team as well.
