After a very encouraging start to the season, FC Barcelona were unable to end the year on a good note. They were able to get only a single win in their last seven league games, and their loss to Atletico Madrid in their last game of the last year cost them their top spot in the La Liga table.
Following that defeat, the Catalans are set to return to action tonight with their Copa del Rey tie against UD Barbastro. There is no doubt that Hansi Flick will be looking to start this Cup campaign with a win, which will also help his team recover the morale lost due to recent failures.
Still, as the Blaugrana team is set to face a team from a lower division, the German tactician is expected to field some of his substitutes and reserves in this game to give them some minutes on the pitch and also to give some of his starters some much-needed rest.
Barcelona have already announced their squad for this game, and despite earlier expectations, Andreas Christensen has still not been able to return to the list.
Other injured players like Marc-André ter Stegen, Marc Bernal, Ferran Torres, and Lamine Yamal also continue to recover from their respective physical issues with the Dane.
Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor, whose registration issues Barcelona have not yet been able to solve, are not a part of this squad, while Raphinha has also been excluded, most probably to give him some rest.
Several youngsters have been called up by Flick for this game, including the defender Sergi Domínguez and the forward Toni Fernández.
