A blockbuster piece of news from Säbener Straße on Monday saw Bayern Munich confirm a contract extension for Manuel Neuer. The 38-year-old goalkeeper will represent the Rekordmeister for at least one more year. Neuer last extended his contract by a single season in January 2024.
Ostensibly, the announcement settles many of the lingering FCB goalkeeping questions ahead of next season. It would appear that prospects such as new signing Jonas Urbig are meant to serve as Neuter’s understudy next year.
“Manuel Neuer is the best goalkeeper of his generation and already an icon of FC Bayern,” FCB board-member-for-sport Max Eberl noted in a club statement. “Anyone in the world talking goalkeeping this era is talking about Manuel Neuer. He is an absolute role model – on and off the pitch. We are very happy that this uniquely successful relationship is set to continue.”
“Manuel Neuer has been setting new standards in goalkeeping for over a decade,” FCB sporting director Christoph Freund added. “He is our captain, a great figure at FC Bayern, and the team knows that they can always rely on him. We are delighted that he will continue to help us achieve our goals next season.”
“I really enjoy football and want to continue to be a Bayern Munich player,” Neuer himself said. “I’m still hungry and looking forward to another year at this special club. We’ve always had good discussions, which is a nice feeling. It feels good, we still have many goals together.”
