After the signing of Moussa Al-Taamari, Montpellier have already secured their second signing of the transfer window, officialising the arrival of Bećir Omeragić (21) on a free transfer.
Omeragić, a Swiss international has reached the end of his contract at FC Zürich, where he joined on a free transfer in 2018. According to Foot Mercato, Hoffenheim, Augsburg, Burnley and Braga were also interested in the Swiss defender, but it was ultimately Montpellier who won the race.
Omeragić’s preference was for a move to Ligue 1, and he was in fact linked with a move to French rivals Olympique de Marseille last summer, although the move never materialised. The former Zurich player is naturally a centre-back but is also capable of playing at right-back or as a number six.
The deal was completed on Sunday, the day after the official opening of the summer transfer window. “He is a quality player in whom the recruitment team have a lot of faith and I hope he’ll bring us something extra,” said Montpellier President Laurent Nicollin in a press release. The duration of Omeragić’s contract has not been revealed.
