With the team currently yet to pick up their first win of the season and sitting dead last in the table, Bochum has announced that they have fired head coach Peter Zeidler and sporting director Marc Lettau.

This came after their weekend loss to fellow early-season strugglers Hoffenheim left them on one point in seven games and an upcoming run of games which see them play Bayern Munich, Eintracht Frankfurt, Bayer Leverkusen and VfB Stuttgart.

Ziedler was only appointed in the summer from St Gallen replacing Heiko Butscher who was in interim charge and helped stir the club away from relegation at the end of last season. In comparison, Lettau was appointed sporting director and head of first-team football in July of last year.

Bochum’s short-term solution is likely to be internal, reports Ruhr Nachrichten. Under-19 head coach David Siebers is a candidate to replace Ziedler but he has no current head coaching experience. At the same time, Ziedler’s assistants Markus Feldhoff and Murat Ural could step up.

If the interim hire is a success then they could be promoted to the permanent solution, but if they don’t, Sky Germany reports that Bochum will look externally during the November international break.
