Having already signed Germany U21 international Tom Krauß on loan from Mainz, Bochum unveiled another January addition on Saturday. Greek attacker Georgios Masouras finally joins the Revierklub on a six month loan deal after several transfers to the Bundesliga side fell through.
The 47-times-capped Greek international leaves his home country to play abroad for the first time in his career. Masouras is nevertheless no stranger to Germany. In the final pre-Euro 2024 warm-up match between Germany and Greece in Mönchengladbach this past summer, Masouras opened the scoring against the German national team.
“The fact that we were able to sign Georgios Masouras is quite extraordinary,” VfL head coach Dieter Hecking – as quoted by Kicker – said of the signing. “He can be used in a variety of offensive roles and should give our attack new impetus and a lot of momentum.
“The newcomer has international experience at a high level,” Hecking continued. “We expect him to quickly get used to the pace and style-of-play in the Bundesliga. What I personally like very much is that he really wanted to come to VfL and is eager to challenge and prove himself.”
“I’m happy that the move to VfL Bochum has worked out,” the player himself added in a club statement. “I can promise the fans that I’ll give my best to help us be successful. My goal was to play in the Bundesliga, and now I’m very close to achieving that.”
