Manchester United have confirmed that youngster Ethan Wheatley has signed a new contract to extend his stay at the club.
A statement issued by the club reads, “The young striker has agreed a fresh deal to run until 2028, with the option of a further year.”
“Congratulations to Ethan from everybody at United.”
Wheatley also took to social media and published an image of himself putting pen to paper on his new deal.
He wrote alongside the photo, “Amazing feeling to have signed a new deal with this great club. Another proud moment for me and my family.”
The 19-year-old is currently out on loan at League Two leaders Walsall, where he will stay for the rest of the season, as he seeks to get regular first-team minutes.
He has so far made just three appearances for Walsall, starting in two of those games. He has accumulated 152 minutes of play since temporalily joining them.
The forward’s last outing was in the 2-2 draw with Salford City on February 1. As Walsall push for automatic promotion, competition for places has proven to be tough, severely limiting Wheatley’s playing time.
The United starlet has been left out of Walsall’s last seven matchday squads.
Wheatley managed one appearance for United this season before his loan departure last month, coming on as a substitute in the dying embers of the 5-2 Carabao Cup win over Leicester City in October.
The teenager has featured on four occasions in total for the Red Devils and will be hoping for many more now that he has committed his future to them.
Wheatley became the 250th youth-side graduate to represent the United first team when he made his senior debut last term.
