Genoa have announced that they have signed forward Hugo Cuenca from AC Milan on a permanent deal on deadline day.

Cuenca joined Milan’s Primavera in 2022 for around €400k and he quickly showed himself to be a promising talent. His record so far reads 67 games, eight goals and seven assists, but the 20-year-old was on an expiring deal and has decided to depart.

Indeed, Genoa have confirmed his signing on their official website: “Hugo Cuenca is a new Genoa player. The footballer born in Coronel Oviedo on 08/01/2005 arrives permanently from AC Milan.

“Born as a footballer in Club Deportivo Capiatà, since 2022 he has worn the red and black jersey in the Primavera and Milan Futuro selections. Cuenca made his debut with the senior Paraguay national team in September 2024. Welcome to Genoa, Hugo!”

What is interesting is that Matteo Moretto recently stated that it’s ‘99%’ certain that the right-winger won’t renew his contract with Milan but that he would prefer a move to Spain rather than a stay in Italy.

In the end, though, the pressure from the Rossoblu proved too much for him to turn down and he has opted to join them. According to Roberto Rojas, the attacking midfielder has signed a contract until 2028 with the Grifone. Should Cuenca move on, Milan will get 50% of any future deal.
