Augsburg centre-forward Irvin Cardona (27) has returned to Saint-Etienne on loan, both clubs have announced. The Frenchman spent the first half of the 2024-2025 campaign on loan at Espanyol Barcelona. Cardona’s return to Les Verts was previously held up due to the La Liga side’s reluctance to release the forward. The striker logged one goal in 16 appearances with the Periquitos. Cardona was instrumental for Saint-Etienne during a six-month loan spell at the end of last season, guiding the historical French club back to the first tier with 10 goals in 22 games.

Cardona’s loan move to Saint-Etienne includes an option to make his return to Stade Geoffroy-Guichard permanent. The 27-year-old Frenchman remains tied with Bundesliga side FC Augsburg until 2027. “I’m happy to be back! I’m going to do everything to be performing individually so that we can secure our place in Ligue 1 together”, Cardona said. “I have already found several of my former teammates I have missed!” Cardona will wear the No. 7 jersey with Les Verts.
