Having been the subject of interest from a host of clubs within Ligue 1 and beyond after leaving Lille at the end of his contract, Jonathan Bamba has opted to join La Liga side Celta Vigo.
The Galician side has announced the Ivorian’s arrival this Tuesday, with the 27-year-old putting pen to paper on a three-year deal. In the north of Spain, the former Saint-Étienne youth academy graduate will play under former Valencia, Liverpool and Real Madrid manager Rafa Benítez.
Both Nice and Marseille had reportedly been keeping tabs on Bamba, while Union Berlin and LA Galaxy were also potential destinations. The former French youth internationals leaves Les Dogues after a five-year stint in the north of France. He notably scored 14 goals in all competitions in his first season, and was a key part of the team that won the Ligue 1 title the following campaign under Christophe Galtier.
