Wolfsburg have completed the signing of Lovro Majer (25) from Rennes. The Croatian midfielder, who played 42 games across all competitions last season, has penned a five-year contract at VfL until 2028.
Although the fee has not been disclosed, it’s been reported to be worth around €35m including bonuses, making Majer Wolfsburg’s second most expensive signing in the club’s history ahead of André Schürrle (€32m) and behind Julian Draxler (€43m). It’s a significant fee for Wolfsburg, who haven’t spent more than €13.5m on a player since the arrival of Sebastiaan Bornauw from Köln in 2021.
On Tuesday, Majer flew with his advisor Andy Bara in a private jet to Braunschweig and was then driven to Wolfsburg to complete his medical. The 25-year-old was then pictured at Wolfsburg’s training ground on Wednesday morning. It’s likely that the Croatian will be a part of the squad that play against newly-promoted Heidenheim on Saturday.
During his time at Rennes, Majer played 79 games across all competitions, scoring nine and creating 16.
