Real Madrid will look to secure their place in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League when they take on neighbours Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano tonight.
Having won the first leg of their Round-of-16 battle 2-1, Carlo Ancelotti’s go into the match with a narrow advantage and will want to complete the job and go through to the next phase, where they will likely face Arsenal.
Ahead of kickoff at Atletico Madrid’s den, Ancelotti has announced the Real Madrid starting lineup for the game, with some changes from the team that took the field at the weekend vs Rayo Vallecano.
The headline news is that Kylian Mbappe is fit enough to start after concerns emerged over his fitness due to a knock he picked up in the previous game. Having passed some medical tests today, the 26-year-old has been deemed ready to feature from the get-go.
Mbappe pairs up with Rodrygo Goes and Vinicius Jr. in the final third for Real Madrid. Jude Bellingham starts as the attacking midfielder after missing the first leg vs. Atleti due to suspension.
Moreover, Thibaut Courtois and Antonio Rudiger, who were both rested in La Liga last weekend, are back in the starting lineup, replacing Andriy Lunin and David Alaba, respectively.
Federico Valverde also starts, coming in at right-back at the expense of Lucas Vazquez while Ferland Mendy gets the nod over Fran Garcia on the left side. Raul Asencio retains his place in the team.
Aurelien Tchouameni, back in form, holds on to his place in the centre of the park where he is partnered with captain Luka Modric ahead of Eduardo Camavinga.
