Bundesliga side Freiburg have this afternoon announced the contract extension of 29-year-old vice-captain Vincenzo Grifo.
“Vince and Freiburg, it just fits,” said CEO Jochen Saier. “Whether on the field with his mixture of creativity and goal threat or off the field as a figure of identification – Vince is a player who connects and has developed into a face of Freiburg.”
Entering his seventh year over two spells at Freiburg, Grifo added: “I feel incredibly comfortable in Freiburg and have found a piece of home here with my family. We are also on the right track in terms of sport and I would like to do my part to continue on this path.”
As is always the case at Freiburg, the club have not disclosed any details on the contract length.
Grifo spent 2015-2017 at Freiburg before spells at Borussia Mönchengladbach and Hoffenheim. After returning on loan to Freiburg in January 2019, he then made the move permanent that summer for €7m.
The Italian has played 180 games in all competitions for Freiburg, scoring 55 and creating 59.
