OGC Nice goalkeeper hints at potential transfer interest from Barcelona

The serious injury Marc Andre Ter Stegen suffered this season can have short- and long-term implications for FC Barcelona. These short-term implications have already manifested themselves in the signing of Wojciech Szczesny.

But it needs to be remembered here that the Polish goalkeeper had already retired before signing for the Blaugranes, and is only a short-term solution. Similarly, Ter Stegen will also be 33 years old in a couple of months, while Inaki Pena still has much to prove with his performances between the sticks.

In such a scenario, Barcelona have been recently linked with one of the up-and-coming goalkeepers in Europe, the Poland international Marcin Bulka. The 25-year-old goalie has been quite impressive with his performances with the French side OGC Nice and has raised the interest of several clubs around Europe.

Meanwhile, as SPORT has reported, the goalkeeper himself is aware of the interest that Barcelona has in him and commented on it as he spoke to his country’s media while on international duty with Poland:

“As they say, there’s a grain of truth in every rumor. When it comes to transfer matters, I’d prefer my agent to speak. I’m here to stay fit every week and give reasons to at least have such clubs talk about me. It’s definitely a compliment. When someone mentions these clubs, it’s always an extra motivation for me and a sign that I’m doing something right.”

“If I weren’t playing well, probably no one would say that. Today, I’m at Nice, and I’m focused on the club because we’re just at the beginning of a long season. I need to be even more focused on the here and now to prove those who say that are right.”

The goalkeeper’s renewal talks with Nice are not going very smoothly, and the player himself revealed this in the same interview: “I’m talking with the club, but nothing has been clarified yet. We started the conversation ourselves a year ago, but the response wasn’t what we expected.”

“We just had to wait, even though we were the first to approach and want to talk. Obviously, people don’t stay still; they grow, so it’s also necessary to talk about the future. Time flies, and you have to seize everything you can.”

These rocky negotiations can end up benefitting Barcelona as the Catalans look for a long-term replacement for Marc Andre Ter Stegen.

While Bulka can be a very intriguing option for the future, Flick will have to rely on Inaki Pena and Wojciech Szczesny for this season, as further changes in the goalkeeping department will take place only next summer.
