Liverpool currently sit top of the Premier League and are enjoying an excellent start to life under new head coach Arne Slot.

The Reds have won five of their opening six Premier League matches, as well as winning their opening games in both the UEFA Champions League and the Carabao Cup.

It is only early in the season, but Slot already has this Liverpool side looking ready to compete for trophies, something that will be important when attracting new players, but also when trying to keep current players at the club.

Now, a former Slot target who Liverpool fans will be familiar with has revealed that he’s a big fan of the head coach and has given his stance on a future Liverpool move.

Danjuma would be open to Anfield move

Arnaut Danjuma is a player most Liverpool fans will be familiar with. The 27-year-old Dutch international has played for Bournemouth, Tottenham and of course Everton, but the winger almost ended up at Slot’s Feyenoord in the summer of 2023.

Speaking to ESPN (Via FCUpdate), Danjuma revealed how close he came to linking up with Liverpool’s head coach in the Netherlands.

“I considered it at the time and spoke to Slot. I am a fan of his way of playing and have a lot of confidence in him as a coach. But I didn't think it was the right step for me at the time.”

Now playing for Girona, on loan from Villarreal, Danjuma discussed how he wouldn’t let his Everton history get in the way of a move to Anfield, saying: “As a player you have to be ambitious and when a big club comes along, you always have to consider it. I don't think there will be many people at the table who will say no to Liverpool.”

Is a move to Liverpool likely for Danjuma?

Although the forward can play right across the front three, he has played the majority of his football on the left-wing, a position currently being fought over by Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo who are both in fine form.

Liverpool also recruited reinforcements on the right-hand side of their attack this summer, with Federico Chiesa joining from Juventus on a long-term deal.

Despite the Reds’ strong attacking depth, Mohamed Salah is out of contract at the end of the season and, as things stand, he will be leaving on a free. Danjuma may not be the conventional replacement many fans have in mind, but he could offer depth for a cut price.

An Anfield move for the winger seems unlikely, but it is still always good to hear praise aimed at the head coach and Danjuma’s belief in Slot is clearly well founded.
