One of Manchester City’s key pillars is set to depart the club at the end of the season. City’s Director of Football, Txiki Begiristain is set to depart the club at the end of the season.

A new report from David Ornstein for the Athletic, indicates that one of the key men behind City’s recent era of dominance will depart his role. Furthermore, Ornstein reports that the decision of Txiki Begiristain to step down has been made with the full knowledge and endorsement of the club. Ornstein adds that Manchester City have reached an agreement on a replacement for Begiristain. Begiristain’s replacement is set to start in the role early in 2025 Ornstein further reports.

There’s an argument to be made that without Txiki Begiristain, Manchester City wouldn’t sit at the top of football’s tree.

There is little doubt that the contribution that Txiki Begiristain has been immense. He has been one of Manchester City’s key pillars since he arrived at the club. After joining the club in 2012 Begiristain has overseen the rise of the world champions to become the dominant force in English football. Alongside Ferran Soriano and City CEO Khaldoon Al-Mubarak, Manchester City has dominated both on and off the pitch. Under their lead, the entire club works as one in all areas to continue to strive for greatness. That is a testament to the work of Begiristain, Soriano, Al-Mubarak and all of the City executive staff.

Perhaps the biggest coup in Begiristain’s time at Manchester City was the signing of Pep Guardiola as manager. The pair have had a close relationship during their time together at Barcelona and that carried through to Manchester City. Without Txiki, City likely never land Guardiola as manager. Txiki Begiristain’s legacy at Manchester City is sizable, but perhaps that is his greatest accomplishment during his time at the club.

Whatever the future holds for Txiki Begiristain his time at Manchester City had been an undisputed success. His legacy at the club is secure and that is a testament to the work of Begiristain. He will leave Manchester City with the club well set up for his successor.
