Manchester United are reportedly one of several clubs tracking Newcastle United bomber Alexander Isak, but England’s two most famous pundits have different views on the club’s chances of securing his signature.

As we all know by now, recruiting a top-notch striker is very high on the club’s priority list for next summer. INEOS failed to address this obvious issue in January despite a last-gasp attempt to lure Bayern Munich teenager Mathys Tel who instead wound up at Tottenham.

Therefore, the Red Devils will be keen to sign a marksman who can be an upgrade on Rasmus Hojlund who has been struggling for goals this season, albeit he managed to put an end to his agonising goal drought recently.

Among the forwards who are being linked with a move to Old Trafford, Isak is possibly the most pricey, with Newcastle reportedly slapping a whopping £150 million price tag on the back of the star who has been identified by Sweden boss Jon Dahl Tomasson as the best striker in the Premier League.

Do Man United stand a chance in the race for Alexander Isak?

For his part, Neville believes Man Utd are among the clubs capable of tempting the 25-year-old Swede.

“The reality is Newcastle are a great football club and we didn’t see that anymore [than] as we did on Sunday [the final],” said the former United captain during his appearance on ‘It’s Called Soccer Podcast’ (via TeamTalk).

“But they [Newcastle’s top stars] will want to play for the Real Madrids, Liverpools, Manchester Uniteds and Bayern Munichs of this world, it’s just natural that these players will want to play at those clubs at some point, if they can.”

On the contrary, Neville’s colleague Carragher insisted that only two clubs are capable of snatching Isak away from St. James Park, and United are not on this exclusive list.

“I think the only two options [for Isak] at the moment would be Arsenal and Liverpool as they’re both sort of crying out for a striker.

“I just look at how long he’s got left on his deal and the ball is in Newcastle’s court, it’s not really in Isak’s. I think once you get [down] to two years [on the contract], it’s almost a 50-50, no-one wants to get down to 12 months.”
