FLW looks at who has benefited the most in Hull City's transfer window so far

Hull City's summer of change has continued into the third week of pre-season.

Tim Walter's men are gearing up their preparations ahead of the upcoming Championship season which commences on August 10th as Bristol City make the long trip to the MKM Stadium.

The Tigers are heading into the campaign as somewhat of an unknown quantity as a result of the player turnover expected in East Yorkshire, as well as it remaining to be seen how the German can implement his intense philosophy in the second tier of the English game, having enjoyed relative success with the same methods in the 2. Bundesliga.

He and the board, fronted by Acun Ilicali and Tan Kesler, have already made some major decisions prior to the beginning of the season so far, and with that in mind, Football League World looks at who the clear winners have been in City's summer transfer window to date.

Oscar Estupinan

The first winner of this transfer window of a Black and Amber persuasion is undoubtedly Oscar Estupinan.

Estupinan was cast aside by Walter's predecessor Liam Rosenior, to the disbelief of many at the time too, which many will now feel was justified after City's struggles at times last season in the centre-forward position.

Liam Delap and Aaron Connolly may have both struck 16 goals between them last term, but both were unavailable for large periods of the campaign, meaning that a loan move for Noah Ohio and the underwhelming acquisition of Billy Sharp were sanctioned in January, whilst the Colombian saw one loan spell at FC Metz curtailed ahead of another temporary exit to Brazilian outfit, Bahia.

None of the aforementioned strikers are now at the club, which presented Walter with the avenue of recalling the 27-year-old after he netted eight times in 21 outings for Bahia.

Following conversations between the pair, Walter recalled the Colombian and that has no doubt boosted both the confidence of Estupinan and the Tigers supporters, with the 48-year-old impressed with his previous contributions with City - including a 13-goal haul two seasons ago.

"I have had a good talk with him, I had a Zoom call with him, so I like him, I like his style that he played before in Hull," the new boss explained to Hull Live.

"I saw a lot of clips from him how he scored the goals. He's waiting in front and that's what we need to maybe to pin some players in the last line, to bind them and then make space for the upcoming players, like our number eight or for the wingers.

"And at the end, he's there to score and that's what he prefers. He said to me, 'Oh, that's my style, that's my style.' I showed him a lot of clips from my former clubs and he liked it and he said it's my style and I said, I know it's your style, that's the reason why you have to come back."

Estupinan made just five appearances in all competitions at the beginning of last season, and will be hoping to replicate the vein of form showcased after his initial move to the MKM, which yielded a return of seven goals in six games - including a hat-trick against Coventry City.

Jacob Greaves

Although Hull may feel they are far from the winners of a reported £15m+ deal, Jacob Greaves moves to Ipswich Town as a real benefitter from this transfer window.

You'd find it extremely tough to speak to any City supporter who believes that the 23-year-old hasn't earned a shot at the Premier League, as disappointing as it is that the first top flight appearance of his career will come for Kieran McKenna's side instead of his hometown club.

Tigers fans will also be extremely envious that McKenna has also acquired the services of the aforementioned Delap as the Suffolk side continue their own preparations ahead of a first top flight season since 2002.

Many have full faith that the academy graduate can make a seamless transition to the Premier League after his stellar development at second tier level resulted in a place in the Championship Team of the Season, after also earning a 7.30 average rating on Sofascore for his performances last season.

Prior interest from the likes of Everton, Tottenham, West Ham and fellow Championship side, Burnley, highlight his potential, although it will please City fans that Greaves never opted to join a divisional rival, as Walter's side look to make the step-up into the play-offs this season.

Aside from the classiness and composure shown in defensive situations as well as the ability to play out from the back, Greaves' personality as a class act was showcased in an emotional message to supporters days after his move was ratified, as he leaves with the best wishes of everyone connected with the club.
