Carney Chukwuemeka may have inadvertently dropped a hint about his future with his latest activity on social media.

The 21-year-old arrived at Stamford Bridge in a deal worth £20m from Aston Villa in the summer of 2022, but his time in west London has been plagued by injury issues.

The midfielder made 15 appearances in the 2022/2023 campaign and just 12 last season, and it doesn’t look like he will improve on that this season.

Chukwuemeka drops hint on his future

It appeared Chukwuemeka might be part of Enzo Maresca’s plans after he started the first two games of pre-season.

However, he didn’t kick a ball for the remainder of Chelsea’s tour of America, and for whatever reason Maresca doesn’t appear to be a fan.

Chukwuemeka has played just 49 minutes of football this season in the Carabao Cup and Conference League and he’s not made a single Premier League match day squad.

Unlike others Chukwuemeka hasn’t been frozen out and is still training with the first team, although his situation is far from ideal.

With the January window fast approaching Chelsea will be looking to find a solution, and it’s been reported Ipswich have strong interest in the player.

It’s clear there will be interested clubs in January, but Chukuwuemeka may have inadvertently dropped a hint about his future after liking a post on Instagram.

Over the weekend the youngster liked a post which suggested he could leave in the January transfer window, and it’s clear that would be the best solution for all parties.

Chukwuemeka needs to be playing in order to develop and Chelsea are currently paying wages to a player to essentially just train.

It was reported over the summer that Chukwuemeka has a £40m release clause in his contract, but it’s highly unlikely the Blues would get anywhere near that amount given his limited playing time.

Another possible solution could be a loan deal in an attempt to boost his value and attract more suitors for next summer, but one thing that’s clear is Chukwuemeka’s future most likely doesn’t lie at Chelsea.
