Widely regarded as one of the world’s best goalkeepers, Donnarumma has spent the last four years at Paris Saint-Germain.

Indeed, he joined the perennial Ligue 1 champions from AC Milan in the summer of 2021 as a free agent.

However, with just over a year left to run on his contract at the Parc des Princes, his future in Paris looks anything but certain.

Meanwhile, Inter would gladly take him back to Serie A, regardless of his past ties with the Rossoneri.

Despite graduating from Milan’s youth academy, Donnarumma could wear the Nerazzurri shirt next season.

With Yann Sommer entering the twilight of his career, Simone Inzaghi’s charges are in the market for a new stopper.

There’s no doubt Donnarumma would be a massive coup for Inter.

But luring him back to the San Siro may prove a tall order.

Donnarumma wore the armband in Italy’s 2-1 loss to Germany last evening.

“On a personal level, I’m very happy, even though I’m disappointed with the result,” he said after the game.

“I’m happy to be here and to have reunited with this team.

“I missed it a lot, I missed wearing the Italy jersey.

“We’ll go there to play our game; we’ve shown many times that we can achieve the impossible.”

Meanwhile, he returned to the San Siro, where he launched his professional career.

“The reception at San Siro is always emotional, and I thank the people who welcomed me well – it’s what I wanted to feel,” he added.

“A return to San Siro in the future? Certain situations will be evaluated later.

“I’m happy because I missed Italy and San Siro. We’ll try to do better in the return match.”
