Lorenzo Pellegrini got off to a good start after the arrival of Claudio Ranieri, but he has quickly tumbled down the pecking order again, which is stoking the rumors about a potential January exit. He has started just once, in the Europa League, in the last seven matches and has been an unused sub four times.
According to Calciomercato, the agent of the midfielder is making calls, but it’s not that easy to find the right landing spot. He’ll evaluate only truly convincing projects where he’d have a prominent role. On the other hand, his €4M salary plus €1M add-on is lofty for most outfits.
Fiorentina have a need in that role, but Pellegrini earns too much. The Viola generally sign younger players anyway. Napoli could emerge as a viable option, but they don’t hand out rich contracts willy-nilly. He’d have to accept a yearly pay cut in a longer deal. His current one lasts until 2026.
A swap with Giacomo Raspadori could be on the table, as it’d satisfy the two coaches and the team’s balance sheets. On the other hand, neither would be a surefire starter after switching sides. Juventus are keen on the attacker too, and his departure would open up a spot.
He’s a good bet to fare better in a different team once he gets out of the never-ending and quite baffling feud with the Roma fans, but he could join only a top club at that rate. It’s more likely than not that he’ll say put. Otherwise, he’ll probably go abroad.
