Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has claimed that it was mission complete at the Etihad Stadium ‘a long time ago’, discussing what is left to achieve at the club.

The four-time consecutive Premier League winners are evidently approaching the end of their time working under the Catalan coach, and there remains a chance that the ongoing campaign could be his final season at the club.

Pep Guardiola’s existing Manchester City contract – signed midway through the club’s Treble-winning season of 2022/23 – remains active but expires at the end of the ongoing season, with no clear indication as to whether a further extension will be penned.

Manchester City remain insistent on there being no pressure placed on the 53-year-old to make a decision on his future, but will be mindful of presenting fresh motivation or challenges to their head coach after a staggering working relationship since 2016.

Speaking during the embargoed section of his pre-match press conference looking ahead to the weekend’s meeting with Wolves at Molineux, the Manchester City manager was pressed on what is left to achieve at the Etihad Stadium given his remarkable title-winning record.

“I like my job. I’ve said many times that I love what I do. In terms of numbers or titles, it’s done, yeah… I would say a long time ago,” Guardiola admitted.

“I didn’t ever, ever expect when we arrived – and I don’t speak on behalf of Txiki (Begiristain) but I think Txiki and myself – we never thought we’d do it in the way that we have done it. But still I like coming here every morning to work, I LOVE it,” he continued.

“Thinking about Wolves, and what are the messages that I have to tell them, the images I have to see, the training sessions I have to prepare – still I like it. And this is the main reason that I’m a manager.

“When I don’t feel this, it’s not just leaving Man City, I would not be a manager, I would not train, that’s for sure!”

Manchester City will face the fresh challenge of competing for English and European football’s major honours in the absence of mainstay defensive midfielder Rodri, who is ruled out for the remainder of the season with a serious knee injury.
