The match

Sinayoko had the first chance of the game as a long ball allowed him to escape in behind and round Perri, but Ćaleta-Car was in a good position as the recovering defender to block the shot. Tolisso thought he had given OL the lead after a goalmouth scramble, but Lacazette was adjudged to be in an offside position before the ball fell to the midfielder.

Lacazette then went agonisingly close to scoring on two occasions, only to be denied by the keeper with his first effort and for his rebound to be cleared off the line by former Lyon defender Sinaly Diomandé. The OL captain went through on goal only to be denied by Léon once again. It remained goalless at the break.

After the break, Lyon were given a penalty. Mikautadze was played through one-on-one with Léon after a great pass from Tolisso. The Georgian attempted to round the keeper and was fouled in the process. Mikautadze stepped up to take the penalty and made no mistake to give his side the lead.

Cherki would then double OL’s lead. Kumbedi did well down the right flank and found Tolisso in the area, who teed the ball up for the playmaker to curl the ball home effortlessly with a first-time effort and double his boyhood club’s lead.

Just as OL began to look comfortable, Sinayoko made things uncomfortable for the visitors. The Malian striker did brilliantly to evade the advances of OL defenders in the area before unleashing a powerful effort to beat Perri at his near post and reduce the deficit.

At long last, Lacazette got his name on the scoresheet in the final ten minutes. The OL captain converted from close distance after Mikautadze did well to cut the ball back to his strike partner across the six-yard box.

Lyon player ratings:

Lucas Perri – 5

Saël Kumbedi – 7

Duje Ćaleta-Car – 6

Moussa Niakhaté – 5

Abner Vinícius – 5

Corentin Tolisso – 7

Nemanja Matić – 5

Rayan Cherki – 8

After an impressive performance in midweek, the French playmaker was once again involved in everything positive for his side. His choice of pass and calmness in advanced areas to make the right decision were superb, and the effortless finish for his goal was out of the top drawer.

Thiago Almada – 5

Georges Mikautadze – 7

Once again against Auxerre, the Georgian international forward proved to be decisive. After scoring a brace earlier in the season, the striker provided two goals again, with a well-taken goal and an assist for Lacazette. Mikautadze’s all-around movement and attacking play made him influential in the final third.

Alexandre Lacazette – 6

Selected Auxerre player ratings:

Donovan Léon – 6

The Auxerre stopper was vital in the first half as the scores remained goalless at the break. The French Guiana international provided three stops to deny Lacazette in the first half. However, his luck ran out in the second half when he fouled Mikautadze and gave away a penalty.

Kévin Danois – 6
